Moving Day!

Hello!

Follow the red dot …

As Mr. Rygiel takes over our class, he has a class website to help everyone stay on track with World History. Visit the link below:

https://worldhistorychamps.wordpress.com/

Add Mr. Rygiel’s link to your bookmarks and make it a habit to check the website every day. Just like we came here every day, you’ll be heading Mr. Rygiel’s website when you come to class.

Today’s directions and assignment are already on Mr. Rygiel’s site, so head there as soon as you can!

Keep THIS website bookmarked as well as we may visit it from time to time while Mr. Rygiel is here!

Wheel of World Religions (Day 3)

What We Did Today

Hello! πŸ™‚

Smile!

EQ:   How does religion influence the development of culture and government systems?

Essential Skills:

HS.H 1.5: Explain how religions and belief systems have affected the origins of societies.

HS.H 3.2 Analyze how ideologies, religion, and belief systems have influenced economic, political, and social institutions over time

Identify key texts, founders, religious leaders, and places of worship of the major world religions. (DOK 3)

I can research and record factual information about six world religions.

Agenda: World Religions

During this unit, we will be using historical thinking skills to gain an understanding of differing belief systems and begin to speculate how religion influences historical events. After all, if there’s understanding of what a group of people believes in, their decisions and actions make a little more sense!

Assignment: Wheel of World Religions

Now that we have the main religions sections comleted, we are going to add a few more elements to the Wheel of World Religions.

You will need to create a cover for your wheel that fits over the top. Be sure to cut out a section that allows you to see each religion wedge one at a time – see the photo below for guidance on how to shape your cover. Your cover should be decorated and then attached.

On the back of the wheel we will be adding two elements: Video facts and the answer to a question.

Video: The Biggest Religions in the World.

Watch the video below and add 5 facts on the back of your wheel. Your facts should include information about at least 3 different relgions or regions mentioned in the video.

Think About It:

Why do you think religion has such a large role in most cultures and civilizations throughout history?

Example Photos:

We finished up the main sections for each religion on the wheel, but if you need to go back in fill in some empty spaces, you can use the textbook.

Resources: Physical copies of the textbook will be provided in class, but there is also a digital copy of the textbook available.

  • Click on the gear button and look for Patterns of Interaction.
  • A slideshow will pop up of the entire textbook.
  • A special World Religion section begins on page 284. You’ll have to scroll until you hit the page number – you’ll see it in the bottom corner of each page (not the slide #). It’s a pain at first, but you’ll get the hang of it in no time!

What To Do Tonight

Finish your wheel and turn it in! πŸ‘

Can we pass the quiz?

Time for another map break! Once again, we are going to let the map details sink a little as we shift our focus on some more vocabulary terms.

Today we are going to continue the process of creating an illustrated glossary of geography vocabulary.

You will be working with another set of 10 vocabulary words today, which are listed in the document below, along with directions on the options for completing your illustrated glossary.

Each vocabulary terms will require a definition and a visual that shows what the word means. Some words are in your notes, while others will require a little research. Big Hint: Make sure your definitions relate to geography!

Once you get all of your vocabulary words defined, make sure you organize your word and definitions into a little project of your choice. See the idea list on the document below. A simple google doc isn’t enough, so get creative!

Vocabulary List: Day 3

Once you finish your project, attach the necessary files to the assignment in google classroom and hit submit.
